It has to be said there are a lot of women in this deck! Men do get the occasional look in though! The Kings and the Princes (often referred to as knights in other decks) are men.

On first impressions when flicking through the cards they do seem a bit the same, but I think this is partly to do with the pastel shades of the paintings and also that each suit tends to have a similar women in each picture. For example in the suit of pentacles the women are fairly dark skinned with black hair, whereas in the suit of cups they are all golden headed and have fair skin.

The borders to the pictures are bit wide for me as this then gives the central picture less space. The major arcana is particularly impressive with its accomplished artwork and ideas. Each major arcana card is given a different name to the more orthodox names. For example the Fool is now Beginnings and is represented by the Goddess Tara, the Magician is now Magic and is represented by the Goddess Isis. The main direct Goddess connection is through these major arcana cards whereas the minor arcana don't refer specifically to Goddesses. I found the court cards to be a little limited in detail in comparison to the rest but in all a deck that really does manage to celebrate being a woman.

This impressive deck contains images which are gentle, beautiful and powerful. It is wonderfully illustrated, and in spite of drawing upon many different cultures, has an artistic unity. Each Major Arcana card has a different border that coincides with the Goddess on that card. Behind each border is a scene that depicts the Goddess's way of life. For example, the Love card represents the Roman Goddess Venus. This golden-haired courtesan is shown lounging on a couch, with pink roses clinging to her hair. She is draped in a flaming red gown. The ornate room behind her is full of character and there is considerable detail, such as a puppy asleep under the couch! Another dramatic Major Arcana card is Movement, depicted as the British horse Goddess Rhiannon. She rides a beautiful but unearthly white horse through a forest. Behind the border are stately gold columns with doves perched on top. Many readers will feel a psychic bond with all of these women and the multilayered detail in each card will reveal more than initially expected.

The Minor Arcana are also nicely illustrated, and each suit corresponds to a different Goddess. The illustrations seem to be influenced by the Rider-Waite, which makes them easier to interpret. All the Minor Arcana are labeled at the top with the title and across the bottom with the suit. The same format of white outer border and beige inner border is followed, with an inner border colour-coded to each suit. These wide borders do take up rather a lot of room and some readers may feel that they would have liked a bit more space given to the central illustration.
