They say: The Thoth Tarot was created by the famous occultist Aleister Crowely (1875-1947). Lady Frieda Harris (1877-1962) painted the cards. Although Lady Harris knew little about Tarot and its symbolism, under the guidance of Crowley she transposed all the subtleties of his ideas into her paintings. Many a card was painted in several versions, until one of them was approved by Crowley. The Crowley Thoth Tarot took over five years to be completed. It was first published in 1969, after the death of both Crowley and Lady Harris. The present edition was produced by utilising the most advanced techniques of colour separation and printing, thus faithfully reproducing the stunning colours of the original paintings.

We say: Aleister Crowley combines the motives of the tarot with the worlds of magic, alchemy, astrology and Cabbala, and with the myths of ancient cultures, especially Egyptian. This deck has an overall 'male' feeling to it with the wide use of geometry, myths and symbols.

The colours used in this pack are fairly dark and muted. This may have been done to deliberately set them apart from packs that are based on primary colours, such as the Tarot of Marseille. All of the cards are full of energy, life and detail and it is possible to see something new in each card every time that it is looked at. Although the cards do have a dark and masculine feel about them, many of them contain bright and colourful images. For example, the 8 of Disks shows small bright violet flowers against a lemon yellow background and the 6 of Wands shows red and yellow wands arranged against a delicate lilac background. Many cards, such as the 4 of Disks, contain interesting perspectives and visual tricks and some, for example The Hermit and The Sun have images which seem to burst out from the confines of the card. Considering Crowley's reputation as 'the most evil man in the country' it is interesting that his version of The Devil shows a very cheerful and cheeky-looking goat! I would recommend that everyone who is interesting in the study of the tarot should have a pack of these cards. Even if they are rarely used for giving readings, they are worth having simply for the opportunity to study Crowley's particularly fascinating view of the subject.

I have recently bought a set of these cards, and they are visually stunning. I've had two other sets of tarot cards for years, and never been able to do much with them, but these literally 'spoke' to me. The artwork is second to none, and they're certainly not dark spiritually, as you may expect from cards associated with Crowley.

The combination of Crowley and Lady Harris is an amazing one, and I'd recommend it to anyone. Very powerful and beautiful.

A Deck that sometimes that is mis-understood, and seems more powerful than any other deck you may have worked with. The Deck is an excellent for all classes of readers, it has a reputation just to 'tell it how it is' and is very popular around experienced readers. The cards are colourful and full of symbolism from kabbalah, the golden dawn and themla.

The Major Arcana is slightly different, some cards have swapped places but it still does the job, the minor arcana cards have 'keywords' at the foot of each card. The Court cards are well drawn and you can't not get intuitive intepretaions by looking at them. Although this deck is mis-understood much like its creator is an investment for any tarot readers collection. It is my most treasured Deck.
