They say: Card designs executed in the style of Art Nouveau popularised during the early 1900s with stylised figures, borders, flowers and decorative forms.

The Art Nouveau style developed at the turn of the century as a reaction against the mechanization and industrialization of society. Its stylised, decorative treatment of plants, human figures and other natural forms was developed to offset a world of mass production, sterile ideas and mundane imagery. It brought renewed emphasis to the value of craftsmanship in the arts and throughout the fields of design.

The Art Nouveau Tarot utilises the Art Nouveau emphasis on curvilinear design, as well as its ready experimentation with varied materials, blurring the line between art and craft. In the Art Nouveau Tarot realistic portraits peer from stained glass panels set with jewels, themselves framed and shadowed by the powerful images of the Tarot. These elements combine to create a unique beauty.

The first thing that strikes you about these cards is the rich variety of colour they contain. Colour is also used to distinguish between suits. For example the pentacles uses very earthy, green lush colours, while the cups have a predominance of turquoise and blues. This makes it even more noticeable in readings as to whether a certain suit is trying to grab your attention.

The pictures are all strongly painted, and it is clear that a lot of time has been spent on each card by the artist. There are a lot people and couples throughout the both major and minor arcana, and in the major arcana and court cards the people are more detailed. This is a deck I feel many will find just what they are looking for, especially those who relate better to people and depicted situations rather than symbols. In all, good colours, good painting and a refreshing approach.

I find these cards are always accurate when giving readings for matters of the heart. They are richly colourful reminiscent of stained glass windows and the Court Cards seem to have been based on real people. They are a very emotive deck, try looking at the card representing the six of swords and you'll see what I mean. This card really does scream 'depression' with a wish to put both spiritual and physical space between the querent and a situation. I like these cards particularly because they 'do not pull their punches', they tell it how it is not how you'd like it to be.
