By Emma Sims View ProfileI've read a few of Sylvia Browne's books before, and find her books down to earth and approachable, as was this one. Sylvia draws on examples from her life, to illustrate 21 Tenets which her guide gave to her thirty years ago which are listed at the beginning of the book and are the basis of the chapters.
My personal beliefs aren't founded from one particular religion; what speaks to me, speaks to me from various religions. I knew nothing though of Gnosticism when I started to read this book, so I was intrigued to read more about this in the introduction and throughout the book. In the introduction and the conclusion there is information about Novus Spiritus, how Sylvia came to form this church which is now in its 19th year, and what they as a church are about and what they do.
She includes details of her life which she hadn't felt able to include in previous books and biographical elements I always find very interesting, but I kept getting lost in her life story and forgetting what the tenets were about! The discursive elements of other religions and earthly issues that many will identify with came through as generally more informative. Although I personally didn't glean much spiritual inspiration from this text, I am sure there are many that will.
This book is a must for avid Da Vinci Code fans, who will probably find some of the discussions under the last few tenets, very interesting - I will say no more! At the beginning of the book, she includes a piece from her bible that she wrote in 1954, and later on another personal piece which is so very heartfelt and beautiful.
