The Secret of Happy Children
Review (last 5 for this product, read more)

By Paula Thompson View ProfileThis book is written by a family therapist, I know what you are thinking; another do-gooder, but believe me when I say 'this is a parenting book with a difference'. It really is. With in the first 30 minutes of beginning to read this book I was feeling a complete monster of a parent. But reading on, I began to see the author is not knocking our parenting technique - far from it - Steve Biddulph makes this book very humorous, yet intensely educational and uplifting. From reading the first chapter I began to treat my children with more consideration, and think before I scolded. I also gave myself a moment to consider what I was going to say - instead of uttering 'Sorry I just don't have the time right now'. (Does it really matter if Tea is 20 minutes late this evening? Go to the swings if the kids want to - it's fun!)
The Secret of Happy Children consists of 9 chapters:
1. Seeds in the mind.
2. What children really want.
3. Curing by listening.
4. Kids and emotions.
5. The Assertive parent.
6. Family shape.
7. Ages and stages.
8. Energy and how to save it.
9. Special situations.
Also 'the story behind the book' and a 'forword'. I loved reading this book. There is no doubt I have changed the way I react to my children's behaviour after reading it. It gives much food for thought. Whether you are a parent, grandparent, auntie or child minder, don't miss this book, it's fantastic to read.
