Juniperberry Essential Oil (Macedonia) - 10 ml (100% pure concentrated)
Holisticshop own brand oils - Essential oils
Originally the Holisticshop range of essential oils went under the name of Windflowers. This company was founded by a qualified aromatherapist, selling high quality oils to shops and aromatherapists throughout UK and the world. In October 2003 the opportunity came up for Holisticshop to buy Windflowers, which we did. This acquisition has meant Holisticshop customers can now buy high quality oils at the price professional aromatherapists would expect to pay. These are aromatherapist quality oils. Lower quality oils are available on the market but we continue to pick the best quality source for every oil. For example Windflowers lavender oil is "High Alpine" lavender from Mount Ventoux in the Pyrennes and the ylang ylang is the "complete" oil, not the ylang ylang II or III which come from a different stage in the distillation process.

Indeed, as well as having a long history of use for medicinal and religious purposes by Tibetans, it guarded against the plague in Tibet. In the past it has had a major medicinal role in the treatment of contagious diseases such as typhoid, dysentery and cholera. The Greek, Roman and Arabian medics valued its antiseptic properties most highly, and in Mongolia it was used at the onset of child labour. In Celtic, juniperus means acrid or biting, and in the 15th and 16th centuries herbalists had high regard for its curative powers on bites, as well as the plague.
Juniper is mentioned in the Bible, when the exhausted Elijah slept under a juniper tree. In Yugoslavia it was considered a cure-all in their traditional folk medicine, and was even thought to eliminate diabetes. French hospital staff would burn twigs of juniper and rosemary to clear and purify the air. In fact it has been proven to be highly effective against the bacteria causing staphylococcus, diphtheria bacillus, meningococcus, amongst others. The oil is also used in veterinary medicine. Cade oil, used to treat toothache and dermatitis, is extracted from mature juniper trees, and Oil of Haarlem, a kidney, liver and bladder remedy dating back over 300 years, is also obtained from juniper, although some of the other ingredients remain a secret.
The smallest of the highly populated coniferae family, the juniper tree grows boldly in inhospitable areas, even thriving in arctic conditions. During Christmas celebrations in Germany, the juniper represents the Tree of Life. Juniper berries are probably best known as one of the main ingredients in gin, which takes its name from the French name for the juniper tree, Genievre, or Genevrier. The berries, which are also used to make juniper wine, are reputed to yield the best quality oil, although other parts of the plant are used. The berries turn from blue to black, and are considered ripe after two years.
Juniper essence dissolves iodine, preventing it from turning the skin yellow. And according to Dr. Jean Valnet, (The Practice of Aromatherapy) "The [juniper] berries used in cooking (sauerkraut) should be eaten. Only the snobbish leave them on the side of the plate."
