Holisticshop own brand oils - Essential oils
Originally the Holisticshop range of essential oils went under the name of Windflowers. This company was founded by a qualified aromatherapist, selling high quality oils to shops and aromatherapists throughout UK and the world. In October 2003 the opportunity came up for Holisticshop to buy Windflowers, which we did. This acquisition has meant Holisticshop customers can now buy high quality oils at the price professional aromatherapists would expect to pay. These are aromatherapist quality oils. Lower quality oils are available on the market but we continue to pick the best quality source for every oil. For example Windflowers lavender oil is "High Alpine" lavender from Mount Ventoux in the Pyrennes and the ylang ylang is the "complete" oil, not the ylang ylang II or III which come from a different stage in the distillation process.

Bergamot - Balancing, clarifying, anti-depressant
Name: Bergamot, Citrus bergamia 10ml

A gentle yet powerfully effective oil - uplifting, balancing, refreshing and calming for the mind, body and spirit.

Essential information: This delightfully versatile, delicately scented oil incorporates numerous healing properties, which will help you relax and restore your vitality by relieving stress and tension, building your immunity and restoring your physical, emotional and spiritual balance.

Description of aroma: A light, delicate, refreshing top note, a little like lemon and orange with slightly floral and balsamic overtones.

Ruling planet: Sun.

Properties beneficial to the mind, emotions and spirit: Bergamot is especially helpful in relieving anxiety, stress, tension and depression, as it is both a sedative and an antidepressant. Yet it is also encouraging, uplifting and balancing to the mind and spirit. It's combination of refreshing and cooling qualities help with frustration and anger, possibly by calming and minimizing the action of the sympathetic nervous system - responsible for our fight or flight response.

Essentially interesting: The tree takes its name from the Italian town of Bergamo in Lombardy, where the essence was first sold. Legend has it, however, that Christopher Columbus discovered the tree in the Canary Islands, then introduced it to Italy and Spain. Bergamot oil has been an ingredient in Italian fold remedies for centuries, most specifically for fevers and worms! It is used extensively by perfumers, is the aromatic ingredient in Eau-de-Cologne, and imparts the unusual flavour of Earl Grey tea.

Properties beneficial to the physical body: The oil's antibiotic action combats infection and relieves inflammation. It is also useful with many digestive and respiratory conditions, and is said to inhibit certain viruses and strengthen the immune system.

Scentsual blending suggestions: Bergamot mixes well with numerous other oils. Try blending it with other members of the citrus family, such as grapefruit, lemon, lime, neroli, orange, pettigrain, mandarin and tangerine. Others you may like to try include chamomile, coriander, cypress, eucalyptus, geranium, juniper, jasmine, lavender, marjoram, palmarosa, patchouli and ylang ylang.

Alternative suggestions for use: Can be used as an insect repellent, and apparently keeps cats away from plants.

Essential safety precautions: Bergamot may irritate sensitive skin when exposed to sunlight, as it increases photosensitivity. This is due to the chemical bergaptene, which increases sensitivity to sunlight and may cause burning or skin pigmentation. Avoid strong sunlight for 24 hours after application.

Do not use essential oils undiluted or take internally without the guidance of a qualified practitioner. The information contained here is for general interest and is not intended to replace medical diagnosis or treatment.
