They say: Step-by-Step Tarot is a course aimed at demystifying tarot reading. It will have equal appeal for both the beginner and the more experienced student. Whether you feel that you have psychic qualities or have a more down-to-earth interest, this book will give you the training you need to start working with the tarot. If you have been studying the subject but do not feel confident enough to read for other people, this is an ideal book to help you develop your skills.

The workbook guides you though a practical step-by-step course that is very easy to use. It gives helpful advice on choosing the right pack and learning the meanings of each card. Various spreads are described, along with ways of achieving very accurate readings.

Terry Donaldson is a highly experienced tarot reader and teacher who has developed his techniques from over 20 years experience. He is the founder and director of the London Tarot Centre.

We say: When giving the meanings of the cards this book has two main separate sections: heightened meanings and concentrated meanings.

For the heightened meanings Donaldson uses more lengthy descriptions, which may be good to browse through at your leisure, hopefully adding to your knowledge, while the concentrated meanings can be more useful when you need a quick reminder or a new idea while reading. But this book is more than a list of meanings and has many good tips for reading, and I think most will find some interesting advice on how to proceed.

The book is illustrated with the Morgan Greer Tarot but can be used with any deck.

There is a great deal packed into those pages and one could be overwhelmed by the detail. Nonetheless, there is a need for the more encyclopaedic information that one can refer to from time to time without needing to remember everything listed. This book, however, works well in that the meanings of the cards are expressed firstly in a little detail and then with “bullet meanings.” This, I found, was quite helpful. What was also very useful were the charts dealing mainly with the spreads. There are numerous spreads listed and I am not sure that that was necessary, although there are thus plenty of options for the practitioner.
This book is a serious course in use of the Tarot. It is not the simplest but it does provide the kind of material that is essential in fully understanding how the tarot works. One can spend a lot of money learning the tarot but if this book is read carefully and studied as one would study any other subject then this book is remarkably good value. The only thing one must remember when reading it is not to feel that there is too much to take in. This book needs to be deconstructed a little and the reader making use of what is valuable to them. A second reader or guide is, in my opinion, better than just reading the book for oneself. Having said that, the basics are all here. However one uses the material, if one......more
